The Albany Great Danes (14-16, CONF 7-8) and Vermont Catamounts (23-7, CONF 13-2) face off in an America East showdown. Vermont knocked off Albany 86-75 earlier this season and that was enough to cover the spread.
Albany was having a fine season but they are really struggling coming into this game having lost four games in a row. In each of those four games, Albany also failed to cover the spread. Albany isn’t a great offensive team and over the last five games it has only gotten worse averaging only 58 points per game while the defense has given up 67.4.
On the road this season the defense has been a real issue for Albany giving up 72.2 points and if they want any chance in this one, the defense needs to step up.
Guard Ahmad Clark is the best player for the Great Danes averaging 16.7 points while shooting 39.6 percent from the field. In two of the last three games Clark has scored 23 points and the rest of the team needs to start stepping up.
Vermont looks to be getting hot at the right time and they have dreams of going back to the NCAA tournament. Coming into this game Vermont has won nine of the last ten games and covered the spread in seven of them.
Vermont is led by forward Anthony Lamb who is averaging 16.6 points per game while shooting 40.6 percent from the field.
Albany is 6-2-1 against the spread in their last nine road games. The under is 25-10 in Albany’s last 35 road games. The under is 35-17 in Albany’s last 52 games overall. The road team is 7-1 against the spread in the last eight games between Albany and Vermont.
Vermont is the better team but this is way too big of a number to lay. Look for Albany’s defense to slow down the pace enough to keep this game close enough to cover the spread.
