The Illinois State Redbirds (9-20, CONF 4-13) and Evansville Purple Aces (9-21, CONF 0-17) face off in a Missouri Valley showdown at the Ford Center. Illinois State knocked off Evansville 77-66 earlier this season.
Illinois State has had some real struggles this season but they have looked better each of their last two games. Two games ago against Drake, Illinois State won, and in their last game against Bradley they forced overtime before being knocked out.
Away from home Illinois State is still looking for their first win and the biggest issue has been with the defense giving up 77.7 points per game and letting opponents shoot 48.8 percent from the field.
Illinois State is led by Zach Copeland who is averaging 14.8 points while shooting 40.3 percent from the field. In the Redbirds last game Copeland put up 16 points but he shot only 15.8 percent from the field.
Evansville is still looking for their first conference win and over the last ten games they have only covered four spreads.
Over the last five games the Purple Aces are averaging 65 points per game while the defense is giving up 75.2 points. At home this season Evansville’s offense has been a little better, but the defense has still let them down.
Evansville is led by Deandre Williams who is averaging 15.2 points but over the last three games he hasn’t hit double figures. If Evansville wants to win this game, it’s probably going to take a big game from Williams.
Illinois State is 3-13 against the spread in their last 16 road games. Illinois State is 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 Saturday games. Evansville is 4-11-2 against the spread in their last 17 games overall. Illinois State is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games against Evansville.
The over is 6-2 in the last eight meetings between the Redbirds and Purple Aces.
Illinois State is going to get their first win of the season on the road on Saturday. The Redbirds have looked more competitive the last two games and their defense will slow down Evansville enough to get the job done.
