The Dartmouth Big Green (10-15, CONF 3-7) and Cornell Big Red face (6-17, CONF 3-7) off in an Ivy League showdown at Newman Arena. The loser of this game will have sole possession of second to last place in the conference. Dartmouth knocked off Cornell 75-53 earlier this season.
Dartmouth has had a lot of struggles this season but coming into this game they have won three of the last four games. The one loss during that stretch was against Princeton in their last game, and that was only by three points. The Big Green aren’t an elite offensive team so the defense needs to be strong to let them have success.
Away from home this season Dartmouth is averaging 63.4 points per game while the defense is giving up 67.8 points.
On offense Dartmouth is led by forward Chris Knight who is averaging 14.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and shooting 52.9 percent from the field.
Cornell has also had a lot of struggles this season but they are coming off a win in their last game over the Brown Bears. Cornell’s defense was strong in that game giving up only 45 points and that was enough to lead the team to victory.
Cornell has won all six of their games on their home court and are averaging 69 points while the defense is giving up 62.8.
Over the last five games Cornell’s defense hasn’t been as strong besides that one win, and they are giving up an average of 73 points per game.
Forward Jimmy Boeheim is the leader of Cornell averaging 17.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, while shooting 43.1 percent from the field. Boeheim is dealing with an ankle injury and is questionable for this game, and if he can’t go that would be a big loss for Cornell’s chances.
The under is 7-1 in Dartmouth’s last eight Friday games. The under is 15-5 in Cornell’s last 20 home games.
Cornell is 8-2 against the spread in their last ten home games. The road team is 8-3-1 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between Cornell and Dartmouth.
This is a series that has been dominated by the visiting squad, and it will happen again in this game. Look for Dartmouth to have strong defense, and that will be enough to cover the spread.
