The Chattanooga Mocs (17-12, CONF 8-8) and the VMI Keydets (8-21, CONF 3-13) face off in a Southern Conference showdown at Cameron Hill. Chattanooga knocked off VMI 86-67 earlier this season.
The Mocs are having a nice season but they are coming off a bad loss against Mercer. Chattanooga was six point favorites against Mercer but the defense struggled giving up 85 points and that led to a five-point loss.
Away from home Chattanooga is averaging only 67.9 points per game while their defense is giving up 71.6 points. Over the last five games, Chattanooga’s offense has been better averaging 78.8 points per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field.
Chattanooga is led by Matt Ryan who is averaging 15.7 points while shooting 42.7 percent from the field. Ryan is also an 88.6 percent from the free-throw line.
If Chattanooga's defense can be strong they should be in good shape to come away with a victory.
VMI have had a trying season and over the last nine games they have only won two games. VMI has been an underdog in a lot of games though, and over the last nine games they have covered six spreads.
At home this season VMI has a 5-9 record and the biggest reason for the struggles is the defense has given up over 75 points per game.
VMI is led by guard Travis Evee who is averaging 12.9 points while shooting 45.8 percent from the field. In two of the last three games, Evee has scored at least 23 points.
Chattanooga is 20-9 against the spread in their last 28 road games. The over is 16-5 in VMI’s last 21 home games. The over is 7-1 in Chattanooga’s last eight games as a favorite.
Chattanooga is 2-6 against the spread in the last eight meetings against VMI. The underdog is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings between Chattanooga and VMI.
Chattanooga had a bad loss in their last game against Mercer and it’s going to happen again on Wednesday night. VMI is going to find just enough defense to keep this game lower scoring, and cover the spread.
