The Denver Pioneers (6-22, CONF 2-12) and Fort Wayne Mastodons (12-17, CONF 5-9) face off in a Summit League showdown at the Gates Sports Center. Fort Wayne knocked off Denver 70-63 in early February.
Denver has had all kinds of issues this season, and coming into this game they have lost eight of the last ten games. One of those wins for Denver was in their last game over Oral Roberts when they were 6.5 point underdogs.
It took overtime to get the job done, but Denver was paced by Ade Murkey who is averaging 26 points and Jase Townsend who is averaging 24.
On the road this season Denver’s defense has been a big issue giving up 83 points and letting opponents shoot 47.3 percent from the field.
If Denver wants to win this game the defense needs to be good, but they need to score more than the 63 they scored in their first game against Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne has also had their issues this season and coming into this game they have lost three games in a row. The offense has been an issue as of late for Denver, and in each of the last two games they have scored under 65 points.
On offense Fort Wayne is led by guard Jarred Godfrey who is averaging 15.9 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field.
If Godfrey could run up the score in this game, and pace Fort Wayne, the home squad should be in good shape to come away with a win.
The over is 8-1 in Denver’s last nine road games. Denver is 7-2against the spread in their last nine games overall. Fort Wayne is 8-2 against the spread in their last game played on Wednesday. The under is 19-7-1 in Fort Wayne’s last 27 games overall. The road team is 7-3 against the spread in the last ten games played between Fort Wayne and Denver.
Denver has a lot of confidence after winning their last game, and their offensive success will continue in this game.Denver might not do enough to win the game, but they will do plenty to cover the spread.
Shane’s Pick Denver +7.5
