The Memphis Tigers (19-8, CONF 8-6) and SMU Mustangs (18-8, CONF 8-6) face off in an AAC showdown at Moody Coliseum. These two teams faced off earlier this season and SMU came out ahead 74-70.
The Tigers have been up and down this season but they come into this game having won each of their last two games. The Tigers last game against Houston was one of their most complete games on defense giving up only 59 points.
On the season Memphis is averaging 73.3 points per game, but on the road there is a big drop off giving up 62.1 points.
Precious Achiuwa is the star of the Tigers averaging 15.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Achiuwa is also shooting 48.9 percent from the field.
SMU much like the Tigers have been up and down and in each of the last two games they have lost. In Southern Methodists, last game the offense could only manage 57 points against Tulsa and the hope is that was only a one-time thing, rather than a long term issue.
At home this season the Mustangs offense has had a lot of success averaging 78.4 points per game while shooting almost 50 percent from the field.
On offense, SMU is led by Kendric Davis who is shooting 45.3 points and averaging 15.1 points per game.
In SMU’s last game Davis only managed 10 points per game, and that type of output won’t be enough if they want to win this game.
Memphis is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall. SMU is 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight games played on Tuesday. The favorite is 9-2 against the spread in the last 11 meetings played between Memphis and SMU.
The over is 7-1 in SMU’s last eight games played as a home favorite. The under is 10-2 in the TIger’s last 12 road games.
Memphis is playing with a lot of confidence right now, and that is something SMU can’t have much of. SMU’s defense has been struggling, and it’s going to led to a lot of issues for the home squad. Back Memphis to cover the spread.
