The Rider Broncs (15-11, CONF 9-7) and Saint Peter’s Peacocks (14-11, CONF 11-5) face off in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference showdown at the Yanitelli Recreational Life Center. The Broncs knocked of the Peacocks 70-66 when they battled in late January.
The Broncs are going to be fired up for this contest after losing by a point on Friday night against Iona. Rider on the road is averaging 69.3 points while their defense is giving up 74.9 points.
On offense, Rider uses a balanced attack with four players averaging over 11 points per contest. Dimencio Vaughn is the leader averaging 14.2 points per game, but the real x-factor is center Tyree Marshall who is averaging 12.8 points. If Marshall can have a big game for Rider, they are going to be hard to beat in this game.
Rider’s defense also only gave up 66 points in the first meeting between these two squads, and if the defense can step up, there is no reason that can’t win this game.
The Peacocks come into this game with a lot of confidence having won four games in a row, and covering the spread in each of those games. Saint Peter’s aren’t a team that runs up the score a lot, instead focusing more of their attention on defense.
At home this season Saint Peter’s is averaging 69.3 points while giving up only 63. Saint Peter’s has a deep bench, and they have nine players who are averaging at least five points per game. In the Peacock’s last game it was Aaron Estrada who paced the team scoring 18 points.
Rider is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight Sunday games. Saint Peter’s is 7-2-1 against the spread in their last ten games played on Sunday. The road team is 22-6-2 against the spread in the last 30 meetings between Rider and Saint Peter’s.
Rider has struggled on the road this season, and even though they knocked off Saint Peter’s earlier this season, it’s not going to happen again. Look for the Peacock’s defense to play well and that will be enough to come away with a victory.
