The Siena Saints (14-10, CONF 10-5) and Fairfield Stags (11-15, CONF 7-8) face off in a MAAC showdown at Webster Bank Arena. Siena knocked off Fairfield 65-49 in early February.
Siena comes into this game hot having won four games in a row, but all those were at home, and now they head back on the road, a place they have really struggled. On the road this season, Siena only has one win, and the biggest reason has been because of the defense. Siena is giving up 76.5 points and letting opponents shoot 47.2 percent from the field. Overall this season Siena is giving up 69.5 points, so it’s a big jump on the road.
The offense this season for Siena has been strong with four players averaging at least 11 points per game. Guard Jalen Pickett is the leading scorer averaging 15.6 points while shooting 45.7 percent from the field.
Fairfield has had some major struggles this season, and at home, they only have a 5-5 record. Fairfield’s biggest issue has been scoring points and over the last five games they are averaging only 53 points, while the defense is giving up 63.4.
At home, Fairfield is averaging only 60.2 points, but against a weak defense it might make more sense to push the pace.
Guard Landon Taliaferro paces Fairfield averaging 11.9 points, but in four of the last five games he hasn’t scored more than five points.
Siena is 1-8 against the spread in their last nine road games. Siena is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Fairfield is 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 games played at Webster Bank Arena.
The under is 36-15 in Fairfield’s last 51 games overall. The under is 20-7 in Fairfield’s last 27 games as an underdog.
Siena only has one win on the road this season, and there is no way they deserve to be laying points in this game. Fairfield will find a way to attack Siena’s defense and that should be enough for them to cover the spread. There also is some value on the money line, and that is worth sprinkling a few dollars on.
