The Bradley Braves will travel to the Athletics-Recreation Center to take on the Valparaiso Crusaders this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Bradley Braves won their 4th straight game and improved to 19-9 (10-5 MVC) on the season after defeating the Missouri State Bears, 83-79 in OT, this past Wednesday. Bradley allowed Missouri State to fight back from a 41-32 halftime deficit to force OT, however, the Braves were strong defensively in the extra period and took the lead for good after a pair of FT’s by Elijah Childs gave Bradley an 81-79 lead. Bradley shot 49.1% from the field while holding Missouri State to just 35.5% shooting from the field and 21.7% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Braves was Elijah Childs who had a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.
On the season, Bradley is averaging 71.4 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Braves are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 37.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Bradley has been led by Elijah Childs (14.8 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.1 bpg), Darrell Brown (14.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 4.4 apg), Nate Kennell (12.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.2 spg).
Defensively, Bradley is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 38.8% shooting from the field. The Braves have a rebound margin of 5.4 and a turnover margin of -0.3.
The Valparaiso Crusaders had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-14 (7-8 MVC) on the season after being defeated by the Drake Bulldogs, 77-75 in OT, this past Wednesday. Valparaiso was able to fight back from a 40-22 halftime deficit to force OT, however, ran out of gas in the extra period and couldn’t complete the come from behind victory. Valparaiso shot 42.9% and 42.4% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Crusaders was Javon Freeman-Liberty who had 19 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.
On the season, Valparaiso is averaging 71.6 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Crusaders are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 32.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Valparaiso has been led by Javon Freeman-Liberty (19.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.3 spg), Ryan Fazekas (10.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg), and Donovan Clay (8.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.2 apg).
Defensively, Valparaiso is allowing their opponents to average 70.8 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field. The Crusaders have a rebound margin of -1.2 and a turnover margin of 1.9.
The Braves are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games and 15-12 ATS on the season. The Crusaders are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games and 8-2 ATS at home on the season.
Bradley is a solid team that no one in the MVC is going to want to face in the conference tournament, however, the Braves are just 3-7 on the road this season. Playing at the Athletics-Recreation Center is a challenge for any team and as Valparaiso has been lights out ATS at home this season, I’m taking Valparaiso to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
