The Loyola Marymount Lions (9-18, CONF 3-10) and Portland Pilots (9-19, CONF 1-12) face off in a West Coast Conference showdown at the Chiles Center. The Lions knocked off the Pilots 77-65 in late January.
The Lions are having another down season, and coming into this game they have lost eight of the last ten games. Away from home, the Lions offense really struggles averaging only 58.7 points per game, and the defense is giving up 67.7 points.
Over the last five games Loyola Marymount is averaging only 60.8 points per game and if they want any chance in this game, the offense needs to find a way to get going. The Lions are led by Eli Scott who is averaging 16 points per game, but outside of him, there isn’t another player who is averaging more than nine points.
Much like the Lions, the Pilots have had a lot of issues and coming into this game they have lost ten games in a row. Over the last ten games, Portland has only covered two spreads.
This season the Pilots are averaging 65.8 points while their defense is giving up 73.9 points. At home Portland’s offense is about the same, but their offense is just a little better.
The under is 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings in Portland between the Lions and Pilots. The Pilots are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games against the WCC. The Pilots are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall.
The Pilots have been terrible, but there is no way the Lions should be laying this number on the road. Look for the Pilots to play just enough defense to keep this game close, and cover the spread.
