The William & Mary Tribe will travel to JMU Convocation Center in Harrisonburg, VA to take on the James Madison Dukes this Saturday in a CAA showdown, tipping off at 4:00 EST.
The William & Mary Tribe have won three games in a row and improved to 19-10 (11-5 CAA) on the season after defeating the Towson Tigers 61-51 this past Thursday. The Tribe played well enough to get the win, grabbing a halftime lead of 32-23. William & Mary’s defense held strong and the Tribe only needed 29 points in the second half to seal the victory. William & Mary shot 38.9% from the field and 32.0% from three-point range. Nathan Knight was the top performer for the Tribe, getting a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.
On the season, William & Mary is averaging 71.1 points per game on 46.1% shooting from the field. The Tribe is also averaging 7.3 three-pointers per game on 33.9% shooting from the field. Nathan Knight (20.9 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 1.5 bpg), Andy Van Vilet (13.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.6 apg) and Luke Loewe (10.6 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.8 apg) have been the offensive leaders for William & Mary.
Defensively, William & Mary is allowing their opponents to average 68.5 points per game on 42.2% shooting from the field. Only averaging 4.3 steals per game has contributed to the poor turnover margin of -2.7 for the Tribe.
The James Madison Dukes have now lost four in a row and dropped to 9-17 (2-13 CAA) after being defeated by the Elon Phoenix, 70-62, this past Thursday. James Madison battled to a 34-34 halftime tie but wasn’t able to hang with Elon in the second half as the Phoenix opened up a 60-49 lead with 3:57 left in regulation that the Dukes couldn’t come back from. James Madison shot 38.9% from the field and 25.0% from three-point range. Matt Lewis led the way for the Dukes with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and a block.
On the season, James Madison is averaging 72.5 points per game on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Dukes are also netting 7.7 three-pointers per game on 31.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Matt Lewis (19.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.4 apg), Darius Banks (12.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.6 spg) and Dwight Wilson (10.4 ppg, 10.1 rpg) have been the offensive leaders this season for James Madison.
Defensively, James Madison is allowing their opponents to average 76.2 points per game on 43.6% shooting from the field. The Dukes are averaging 6.5 steals per game with a turnover margin of -0.3 on the season.
William & Mary is 2-6 ATS in their past 8 contests and 9-7 ATS on the road this season. James Madison is 2-9-1 ATS in their past 12 games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games (4-9 ATS on the season).
The Tribe shoots the ball well, ranking 52nd in the country in FG% and protect the glass as well, ranking 66th in college basketball with a rebound margin of 4.1. James Madison has struggled defensively this year, ranking 317th in the country in scoring defense and 218th in FG% defense.
William & Mary beat James Madison by 13 at home in their first meeting back in January and this spread feels too low for me. If you trust the numbers, The Tribe should be able to get the road victory if they play to their potential. I think James Madison will be outmatched in all aspects of this game so I am taking William & Mary to cover this low spread on the road.
