The Pittsburgh Panthers will travel to the Donald L. Tucker Center to take on the 8th ranked Florida State Seminoles this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The Pittsburgh Panthers lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 15-11 (6-9 ACC) on the season after being defeated by the Virginia Tech Hokies, 67-57, this past Saturday. Pittsburgh once again struggled offensively on the road and couldn’t fight back in the 2nd half after going into halftime trailing by a 32-23 margin. Pittsburgh shot just 35.0% from the field and 23.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Panthers was Justin Champagnie who had 12 points, 9 rebounds, and a block.
On the season, Pittsburgh is averaging 65.8 ppg on 40.8% shooting from the field. The Panthers are averaging 5.4 three-pointers per game on 30.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Pittsburgh has been led by Justin Champagnie (12.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.2 spg), Trey McGowens (12.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.8 spg), and Xavier Johnson (11.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 5.1 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, Pittsburgh is holding their opponents to an average of 63.9 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of -1.1 and a turnover margin of 3.6.
The 8th ranked Florida State Seminoles improved to 21-4 (11-3 ACC) on the season after defeating the Syracuse Orange, 80-77, this past Saturday. Florida State allowed Syracuse to fight back from a 11-point 2nd half deficit to take a late lead, however, the Seminoles were able to recover and took the lead for good after taking a 78-75 lead on a Patrick Williams jumper with just :23 seconds left in regulation. Florida State shot 43.1% from the field and 44.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Seminoles was Trent Forrest who had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Florida State is averaging 75.3 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Seminoles are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 36.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Florida State has been led by Devin Vassell (13.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.1 bpg), Trent Forrest (11.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.3 apg, 2.1 spg), and M.J. Walker (10.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.3 apg).
Defensively, Florida State is holding their opponents to an average of 65.6 ppg on 40.5% shooting from the field. The Seminoles have a rebound margin of 1.7 and a turnover margin of 3.7.
The Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last 6 games, however, are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against Florida State. The Seminoles are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games and come into this game with a 12-13 ATS record on the season.
Pittsburgh has been led by their defense this season which ranked 40th in scoring defense and 21st in turnover margin, however, the Panthers have had issues scoring the basketball and rank just 311th in scoring offense.
Florida State has been solid on both ends of the court this season and come into this game ranked 75th in scoring offense, T-76th in scoring defense, and 61st defensive FG%.
Pittsburgh has had recent success against Florida State ATS, including an outright victory to kick of their season this year, however, the Panthers have lost 5 of their last 7 games and have really struggled offensively their last two games, scoring just a combined 109 points. Florida State is a perfect 13-0 at home this season and although we’ll want to confirm that both Devin Vassell & M.J. Walker are available, my initial thoughts are that the Florida State defense will be able to do enough to allow the Seminoles to cover this large spread. Good Luck!
