The Fairfield Stags will travel to the Yanitelli Center to take on the Saint Peter’s Peacocks this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Fairfield Stags snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 10-14 (6-7 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Marist Red Foxes, 57-53 in OT, this past Friday. Fairfield fought back from a 37-29 deficit midway through the 2nd half to force OT and was able secure the victory in OT behind some solid FT shooting by Taj Benning. Fairfield held Marist to just 29.3% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Red Foxes by a 45-35 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Stags was Taj Benning who had 15 points and 8 rebounds.
On the season, Fairfield is averaging 59.6 ppg on 40.0% shooting from the field. The Stags are averaging 4.8 three-pointers per game on 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Fairfield has been led by Landon Taliaferro (12.2 ppg, 2.1 rpg), Jesus Cruz (11.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.6 apg), and Taj Benning (10.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.2 apg).
Defensively, Fairfield is holding their opponents to an average of 63.5 ppg on 42.2% shooting from the field. The Stags have a rebound margin of 3.1 and a turnover margin of -2.1.
The Saint Peter’s Peacocks won their 2nd straight game and improved to 12-11 (9-5 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 84-72, this past Friday. Saint Peter’s was outstanding offensively agianst the Bobcats, and had no trouble securing the victory after going into halftime with a 38-20 lead. Saint Peter’s shot 52.6% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Peacocks was Daryl Banks III who had 18 points, 2 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Saint Peter’s is averaging 67.0 ppg on 40.8% shooting from the field. The Peacocks are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 35.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Saint Peter’s has been led by Daryl Banks III (8.3 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 1.3 apg), KC Ndefo (8.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.4 spg, 2.4 bpg), and Dough Edert (8.1 ppg, 1.8 rpg).
Defensively, Saint Peter’s is holding their opponents to an average of 65.7 ppg on 40.6% shooting from the field. The Peacocks have a rebound margin of 4.6 and a turnover margin of -1.6.
The Stags are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 Sunday game, however, just 10-14 ATS on the season. The Peacocks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Sunday games.
Fairfield has been led by their defense this season, which comes into this game ranked 37th in scoring defense and 150th in defensive FG%, however, the offense has really struggled this season, ranking just 345th in scoring offense and 333rd in FG%.
Saint Peter’s has also been led by their defense which comes into this match-up ranked 79th in scoring defense, 66th in FG%, and 57th in blocks per game.
Saint Peter’s struggled in their 10-point loss at Fairfield earlier this season, however, the Peacocks have been playing great as of late, winning 6 of their last 7 games, while also posting a solid 8-3 record at home this season. Fairfield offense has struggled recently, putting up just 53.4 ppg over their last five games, and as I think Saint Peter’s will be able to put up some success on the offensive at home, I think the Peacocks do enough to cover this mid-range spread.
