The Line: UTEP Miners -1 -- Over/Under: 138
The Marshall Thundering Herd (12-14, 6-7 CONF) and the UTEP Miners (13-13, 4-9 CONF) will meet on Saturday, February 15th for a Conference-USA matchup at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, TX. The game will be played at 4:00 PM eastern time.
Marshall is coming off a 72-63 loss to UTSA on the road in their last game. That loss snapped a two-game win streak for Marshall. The Thundering Herd stand at 6-7 in conference play but have won three of their last four overall. UTEP is in the midst of a bad slump, as the Miners have lost four games in a row heading into this one. In their most recent game, UTEP was defeated by Western Kentucky at home, 67-62.
Marshall has a +2.1 point differential so far this season. The Herd has scored 74.7 points per game on 44.3% FG shooting. Marshall is led by G Taveion Kinsey in scoring, as he averages 16.2 points per game. Marshall allows 72.6 points per game to the opposition, which is slightly below the conference’s average. Marshall also earns 38.2 rebounds, 13.3 assists, 5.9 blocks, and 8.7 steals per game.
UTEP plays a much different brand of basketball, as the Miners focus on the defensive end. UTEP only allows 65.9 points per game, which certainly is among the conference’s best in defense. UTEP only scores 66.8 points per game, however, and scoring has been a big problem as of late. F Bryson Williams leads the team in scoring, averaging 18.5 points per game. UTEP also earns 34.1 rebounds, 12.4 assists, 3.2 blocks, and 6.0 steals per game.
Marshall is 12-13 ATS this season and 3-7 ATS in their last ten games. Marshall is also 6-5 ATS on the road so far this season. UTEP is 9-12-2 ATS this season and 1-7-2 ATS in their last ten games. UTEP is also 5-6 ATS at home so far this season.
UTEP has struggled recently so I do not think it is too appetizing to take them, even with the small line at home. Marshall has not impressed by any stretch either, but I do think that they can grab the road win in this one, as UTEP seems uninterested. Marshall and the free point for me.
