The Northern Colorado Bears will travel to The Nest to take on the Sacramento State Hornets this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Northern Colorado Bears improved to 16-8 (9-4 Big Sky) on the season after defeating the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, 84-54, this past Thursday. Northern Colorado had no trouble putting up points agianst the Northern Arizona defense and easily cruised to victory after taking a 59-31 lead with 14:12 left in regulation. Northern Colorado shot 56.9% from the field and 56.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bears was Jonah Radebaugh who had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Northern Colorado is averaging 74.1 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Bears are averaging 10.5 three-pointers per game on 37.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Colorado has been led by Jonah Radebaugh (15.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 6.4 apg, 1.5 spg), Bodie Hume (14.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.0 bpg), and Trent Harris (11.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg).
Defensively, Northern Colorado is holding their opponents to an average of 62.5 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Bears have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of 1.5.
The Sacramento State Hornets won their 2nd straight game and improved to 13-10 (6-8 Big Sky) on the season after defeating the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 70-55, this past Thursday. Sacramento State had no trouble shutting down the Southern Utah offense and had no trouble getting the victory after entering halftime with a 37-25 lead. Sacramento State shot 43.8% from beyond the arc while holding Southern Utah to just 31.9% shooting from the field and 23.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Hornets was Izayah Mauriohooho-Le’afa who had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Sacramento State is averaging 60.9 ppg on 40.1% shooting from the field. The Hornets are averaging 4.7 three-pointers per game on 30.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Sacramento State has been led by Joshua Patton (12.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.1 bpg), Bryce Fowler (9.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.0 apg), and Izayah Mauriohooho-Le’afa (9.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.8 spg).
Defensively, Sacramento State is holding their opponents to an average of 57.8 ppg on 39.8% shooting from the field. The Hornets have a rebound margin of 4.0 and a turnover margin of 1.3.
The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and 14-7-1 ATS on the season. The Hornets are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games.
Northern Colorado has been solid on both sides of the ball and come into this game ranked 99th in scoring offense, 93rd in FG%, and 27th in scoring defense.
Sacramento State has had trouble scoring the ball this season as the Hornets rank just 341st in scoring offense and 333rd in FG%, however, Sacramento State has been able to pick up wins behind a defense that ranks 3rd in scoring defense and 42nd in defensive FG%.
Sacramento State is an impressive 9-2 at home this season, however, I just can’t trust the Hornets offense against a Northern Colorado defense that held the Hornets to just 52 points earlier in the season. Northern Colorado has won 4 of their last 5 conference road games and as I think Jonah Radebaugh and the Bears offense will have some success, I think Northern Colorado will be able to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
