The Charlotte 49ers will travel to Tudor Fieldhouse to take on the Rice Owls this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Charlotte 49ers had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-10 (8-5 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the North Texas Mean Green, 81-72, this past Thursday. Charlotte struggled defensively against the Mean Green offense and couldn’t fight back after North Texas took a 69-59 lead with 4:07 left in regulation. Charlotte was decent on the offensive end, however, the 49ers allowed North Texas to shoot 59.3% from the field and was outrebounded by the Mean Green by a 31-21 margin. Leading the way for the 49ers was Jahmir Young who had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
On the season, Charlotte is averaging 68.5 ppg on 46.4% shooting from the field. The 49ers are averaging 6.6 three-pointers per game on 35.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Charlotte has been led by Jordan Shepherd (14.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.2 apg), Jahmir Young (12.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.6 spg), and Drew Edwards (10.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, Charlotte is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The 49ers have a rebound margin of 0.5 and a turnover margin of -0.3.
The Rice Owls had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 12-14 (4-9 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Old Dominion Monarchs, 73-70, this past Thursday night. Rice struggled agianst the Old Dominion defense and couldn’t fight all the way back after the Monarchs took a 66-56 lead with 2:41 left in regulation. Rice allowed Old Dominion to shoot 42.6% from the field while the Owls shoot just 36.1% from the field and 21.6% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Owls was Ako Adams who had 22 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Rice is averaging 74.4 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Owls are averaging 10.0 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Rice has been led by Trey Murphy III (13.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.0 spg), Ako Adams (11.4 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Drew Peterson (9.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Rice is allowing their opponents to average 75.7 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Owls have a rebound margin of -1.2 and a turnover margin of -1.2.
The 49ers are 1-5 ATS in their last 5 games agianst Rice, however, are 13-10-1 ATS on the season. The Owls are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games.
Charlotte comes into this game ranked 257th in scoring offense, 44th in FG%, and 66th in scoring defense.
Rice has been led by their offense which ranks 93rd in scoring offense and 12th in three-pointers made per game, however, have struggled defensively as the Owls currently rank just 309th in scoring defense and 314th in defensive FG%.
Rice is hasn’t had a great overall season, however, the Owls have been playing some of their best basketball as of late which included an impressive 84-75 victory at home agianst the C-USA leading North Texas Mean Green. Charlotte has lost their last 4 road games by an average of 10 ppg and as I think the Owls will be able to generate some points against the 49ers defense, I’m taking Rice to cover this small spread. Good Luck!
