The Cleveland State Vikings (9-7, CONF 5-8) and Detroit Mercy Titans (6-20, CONF 4-9) face off in a Horizon League showdown at Calihan Hall. These teams faced off in early January with the Vikings coming out with a 64-59 victory.
The Vikings come into this game having lost three straight and seven of their last nine. The Vikings aren’t a great offensive team, but their biggest issue has been the defense, especially on the road. Cleveland State is giving up 77.3 points per game this season away from home.
Overall over the last five games, the Vikings have done a better job of keeping the pace low, giving up only 65 points per game and allowing opponents to shoot only 39.9 percent from the field.
Algevon Eichelberger has been one of the bright spots for the Vikings averaging 14.3 points per game.
The Titans also come into this game playing some poor basketball having lost four games straight. In two of those games Detroit Mercy were the favorites. The Titans have given up at least 76 points in each of their last four games, and one of those games against Wright State they gave up 98 points. Over the last five games, the Titans are giving up an average of 80.8 points.
Antoine Davis is the star for the Titans averaging 23.5 points per game and he is coming off a game where he dropped 34.
As good as he is, Detroit Mercy needs other players to step up around him, or they wil lose this one.
The under is 8-2 in the Vikings last ten games overall. The under is 13-2-1 in the Titans last 16 home games.
Davis is going to have another big game for the Titans, but it’s not going to be enough. The Vikings have a more balanced attack and their defense has been a little better as of late. Look for Cleveland State to cover the spread.
