The Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons (12-4, CONF 5-6) and North Dakota State Bison (18-7, CONF 9-2) face off on Friday in a Summit League showdown at the Scheels Center. The Bison have won the last two games played between the two teams.
The Mastodons have left a lot to be desired this season, but they have won three of the last four games. In each of the three victories IPFW gave up 69 points or less and if they want to win this game, that defense is going to need to step up again.
Jared Godfrey and Brian Patrick are the two players for the Mastodons who average more than 10 points. Godfrey, Patrick, and Deonte Phillips all scored at least 14 points for the Mastodons in the team’s last victory over the Denver Pioneers.
North Dakota State is currently tied for first place in the Summit League with a 9-2 conference record. The Bison have won five games in a row and the biggest reason has been the play of the offense.
Over the last five games, NDSU is averaging 78.4 points while shooting 48 percent from the field.
Senior guard Vinnie Shahid is the star of the Bison averaging 18.1 points while shooting 43.2 percent from the field. In their last victory over Oral Roberts, Shahid put up 31 points and hit six threes from deep for North Dakota State.
The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings played between the two teams. The underdog is 4-1 in the last five meetings. The Mastodons are 17-7 ATS in the last 24 meetings.
The under is 8-2-1 in the Mastodons last 11 road games. The over is 32-13 in NDSU’s last 45 home games.
There is no doubt the Bison are the better team, but the Mastodons are playing better as of late. With a balanced scoring attack carrying over from the last game, the Mastodons will find enough offense to cover the spread.
