The Marshall Thundering Herd will travel to the UTSA Convocation Center to take on the UTSA Roadrunners this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Marshall Thundering Herd won their 2nd straight game and improved to 12-13 (6-6 C-USA) on the season after defeating the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 83-79 in OT, this past Saturday. Marshall’s Mikel Beyers was able to force OT after hitting a game-tying jumper with just :05 seconds left in regulation and the Thundering Herd was able to pull away in OT after a Jarrod West three-pointer gave Marshall an 80-76 lead with 1:04 left in OT. Marshall shot 47.7% from the field and 40.6% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Thundering Herd was Jarrod West who had 25 points, 7 assists, 1 block, and 3 steals.
On the season, Marshall is averaging 75.2 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Thundering Herd is averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game on 29.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Marshall has been led by Taevion Kinsey (15.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.1 spg), Jarrod West (14.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 2.2 spg), and Andrew Taylor (10.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.9 apg, 2.2 spg).
Defensively, Marshall is allowing their opponents to average 72.6 ppg on 41.3% shooting from the field. The Thundering Herd have a rebound margin of -1.4 and a turnover margin of 0.8.
The UTSA Roadrunners dropped to 11-14 (5-7 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Charlotte 49es, 91-84, this past Saturday. UTSA had no answers on either end of the floor for the 49ers and couldn’t fight back after Charlotte took a 60-48 lead with 11:27 left in regulation. UTSA allowed Charlotte to shot 51.9% from the field while the Roadrunners shot just 39.7% from the field and 25.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Roadrunners was Jhivvan Jackson who had 25 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.
On the season, UTSA is averaging 79.0 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Roadrunners are averaging 9.9 three-pointers per game on 35.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UTSA has been led by Jhivvan Jackson (27.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.4 spg), Keaton Wallace (19.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.5 spg), and Luka Barisic (7.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg).
Defensively, UTSA is allowing their opponents to average 77.8 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Roadrunners have a rebound margin of 0.7 and a turnover margin of 1.2.
The Thundering Herd are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win, however, just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Roadrunners are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game and 11-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a losing road record.
Marshall comes into this game ranked 80th in scoring offense, T-98th in FG%, and 264th in scoring defense.
UTSA like to keep the game at a fast paced and come into this game ranked 20th in scoring offense, 13th in three-pointers made per game, and 55th in 3P-FG%.
Marshall has won 3 of their last 4 games, however, this is a Thundering Herd team that struggles defensively and comes in with just a 3-7 on the road. UTSA has struggled a bit at home lately, but still have an impressive 8-3 home record with an impressive 16-point victory over Louisiana Tech and as I think the Roadrunners high-scoring offense will be able to put up 85-90 points in this one, I think UTSA picks up the win and covers this small spread. Good Luck!
