The Old Dominion Monarchs (10-15, 6-6 CONF) and the Rice Owls (12-13, 4-8 CONF) will meet on Thursday, February 13th for a Conference-USA matchup at the Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, TX. The game will be played at 8:00 PM eastern time.

Old Dominion is coming off a big 72-53 home win at the hands of UTEP. That win snapped a previous two-game losing streak for Old Dominion. Sitting at 6-6 in the conference and a rough five games under .500 overall, the Monarchs of Old Dominion do not have too much more to play for in terms of postseason hopes. Rice is coming off a 91-83 road win over MTSU. That win brings Rice’s current streak up to three games, all C-USA games. Rice started conference play with a measly 1-8 record, but have now put together some good performances, and look to play the role of spoiler the rest of the way in the conference.

Old Dominion has always been a team grounded on defense and possession control of the basketball. The Monarchs only score 65.0 points per game on 40.3% FG shooting. Old Dominion defends the ball well, allowing only 64.6 points to the opposition per game, which gives them a +.4 scoring differential. Old Dominion also earns 39.3 rebounds, 10.2 assists, 3.2 blocks, and 7.0 steals per game.

Rice is more of an offensive team, in which they will sacrifice points in order to score them at a higher rate. The Owls score 74.6 points per game, which is above average in the conference. Rice allows 75.8 points per game, and there is no doubt that defense has hurt them throughout the season. Rice has a -1.2 scoring differential on the season so far. Rice also earns 35.3 rebounds, 14.3 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 6.0 steals per game.

Old Dominion is 13-11-1 ATS on the season and 6-4 ATS in their last ten games. Old Dominion is also 6-3-1 ATS on the road so far this season. Rice is 11-12 ATS this season and 4-6 ATS in their last ten games. Rice is also 5-4 ATS at home so far this season.

I have always stayed away from teams that struggle to score on the road, especially when they play a team that can seriously score the basketball, even if that means they give up a good amount as well. I think Rice may overpower Old Dominion here, so I will take the Rice Owls -1.5
