The UNC-Wilmington Seahawks snapped their 3-game losing streak and improved to 8-18 (3-10 CAA) on the season after defeating the William & Mary Tribe, 70-64, this past Saturday. UNC-Wilmington was outstanding defensively in the 2nd half and was able to pull away later after taking a 64-54 lead with just 3:00 minutes left in regulation. UNC-Wilmington shot 48.1% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 19-8 margin in the victory. Defensively, UNC-Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 72.2 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of -2.5 and a turnover margin of -0.2.
The Northeastern Huskies lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 11-13 on the season after being defeated by the Hofstra Pride, 75-71, this past Saturday. Northeastern led by a 40-30 margin at halftime, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 22-4 Hofstra run gave the Pride a 61-54 lead with 6:31 left in regulation. Northeastern shot 45.6% from the field and 30.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Huskies was Jordan Roland who had 32 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal.
On the season, Northeastern is averaging 72.3 ppg on 47.4% shooting from the field. The Huskies are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 38.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northeastern has been led by Jordan Roland (23.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.8 spg), Tyson Walker (11.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.8 spg), and Bolden Brace (10.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.2 spg).
Defensviely, Northeastern is allowing their opponents to average 67.3 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Huskies have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of 0.7.
The Seahawks are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following an ATS win and just 7-18-4 ATS in their last 29 road games. The Huskies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
UNC-Wilmington has struggled on both ends of the court this season as the Seahawks currently rank just 246th in scoring offense, 221st in FG%, and 257th in scoring defense.
Northeastern has been led by their offense this season which ranks 143rd in scoring offense, 23rd in FG%, and 1st in FT%.
UNC-Wilmington was able to pull out an OT win agianst Northeastern earlier this season, however, this is a Seahawks team that is just 1-10 on the road this season with their last 4 road losses coming by an average of 15.3 ppg. Northeastern has had trouble pulling out wins as of late, however, this is a team that is better than their 11-13 record might indicate and between the fact that the Huskies offense should have no problem putting up points at home against the Seahawks defense and that Northeastern have won their last 3 games at home against UNC-Wilmington by an average of 21.7 points, I’m taking Northeastern to get bac on track and cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
