The North Texas Mean Green will travel to Bartow Arena to take on the UAB Blazers this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The North Texas Mean Green dropped to 15-9 (9-2 C-USA) on the season after defeating the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, 75-70, this past Thursday night. North Texas allowed Middle Tennessee to fight back to tie the game late after holding a 61-48 lead with just 6:41 left in regulation, however, the Mean Green were solid defensively down the stretch and was able to hand on for the victory. North Texas shot 51.9% from the field and committed just 9 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Mean Green was Javion Hamlet who had 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists.
On the season, North Texas is averaging 71.5 ppg on 48.0% shooting from the field. The Mean Green are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 39.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, North Texas has been led by Umoja Gibson (14.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg), Javion Hamlet (13.2 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.8 apg), and Zachary Simmons (9.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.3 apg).
Defensively, North Texas is holding their opponents to an average of 63.3 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the field. The Mean Green have a rebound margin of 2.8 and a turnover margin of 0.5.
The UAB Blazers had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-10 (5-6 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Rice Owls, 86-72, this past Thursday night. UAB has no answers on the defensive end for the Owls and couldn’t fight back after Rice took a 60-31 lead with 16:30 left in regulation. UAB shot 52.8% from the field, however, allowed Rice to shoot 52.7% from the field and 46.4% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Blazers was Tyreek Scott-Grayson who had 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
On the season, UAB is averaging 65.7 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Blazers are averaging 5.3 three pointers per game on 32.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UAB has been led by Jalen Benjamin (12.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.7 apg), Tavin Lovan (11.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.1 spg), and Tyreek Scott-Grayson (9.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, UAB is holding their opponents to an average of 64.0 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Blazers have a rebound margin of 6.7 and a turnover margin of -3.0.
The Mean Green Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite. The UAB Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home underdog and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
North Texas has won 9 of their last 10 games and have been solid on both ends of the court this season, ranking 19th in FG%, 9th in 3P-FG%, and 36th in scoring defense.
UAB has lost 4 of their last 7 games and although their defense has been solid, ranking T-51st in scoring defense & 82nd in defensive FG%, the Blazers offense has had trouble putting up points as they currently rank just T-307th in scoring offense & 333rd in three-pointers made per game.
North Texas has been solid on the road this season, which includes a solid 51-50 victory at Louisiana Tech, while UAB has struggled ATS at home, posting just a 4-7-0 record. North Texas works for good shots which I think they’ll be able to find despite UAB’s defense being their strong point and as I think the Mean Green will able to shut down the Blazers offense, I’m taking North Texas to cover this small road spread. Good Luck.
