The Jacksonville State Gamecocks lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 9-15 (4-7 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the SE Missouri State Redhawks, 76-72, this past Thursday night. Jacksonville State struggled defensively against the Redhawks 307th ranked scoring offense and although they fought back to make it a game late, the Gamecocks couldn’t recover after trailing by a 62-44 margin with 11:37 left in regulation. Jacksonville State shot just 39.7% from the field while allowing SE Missouri State to shoot 56.9% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Gamecocks was Kayne Henry who had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals.
On the season, Jacksonville State is averaging 72.2 ppg on 44.6% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 33.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Jacksonville State has been led by Jacara Cross (12.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg), De’Torrion Ware (10.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.0 apg), and Kayne Henry (10.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Jacksonville State is allowing their opponents to average 69.3 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks have a rebound margin of 2.9 and a turnover margin of -0.1.
The UT-Martin Skyhawks snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 7-15 (3-8 OVC) on the season after defeating the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, 74-62, this past Thursday night. UT-Martin jumped all over Tennessee Tech from the start of this one and led by double digits throughout the 2nd half after going into halftime with a 44-22 lead. UT-Martin shot 50.0% from the field and 47.1% from beyond the arc while holding Tennessee Tech to just 25.7% shooting from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Skyhawks was UT-Martin was Parker Stewart who had 16 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, UT-Martin is averaging 77.1 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UT-Martin has been led by Parker Stewart (20.1 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Quintin Dove (19.3 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.0 apg), and Derek Hawthorne Jr. (13.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, UT-Martin is allowing their opponents to average 83.5 ppg on 50.0% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks have a rebound margin of -2.4 and a turnover margin of 0.0.
The Gamecocks are 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Skyhawks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
Jacksonville State has lost 7 of their last 9 games and come into this game ranked 150th in scoring offense, 182nd in scoring defense, and 258th in defensive FG%.
UT-Martin has lost 6 of their last 8 games and although their offense has been putting up points and currently rank 41st in scoring offense, the Skyhawks have one of the worst statistical defenses in all of CBB as UT-Martin ranks just 347th in scoring defense & 348th in defensive FG%.
Jacksonville State has been one of the better teams in the OVC over the past few years, however, it’s been a struggle for the Gamecocks this season and it probably just hit rock bottom with their loss against SE Missouri State who entered that game 0-10 in OVC play this season. UT-Martin is a tough team to trust as their defense just can’t stop anyone, however, as the Skyhawks are 4-4 at home this season and that I just don’t see Jacksonville State bouncing back after that tough loss on Thursday, I’m taking UT-Martin to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
