The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Syracuse Orange meet in ACC college basketball action from the Carrier Dome on Saturday night.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will look to rebound from an 86-76 loss to Louisville last time out. Andrien White led the Deacons with 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 5 threes and 6 rebounds while Olivier Sarr added 16 points with 6 rebounds as well. Brandon Childress added 14 points with 4 assists and 3 steals to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Wake Forest in the winning effort while Torry Johnson had 7 points with a team-high 6 assists while Isaiah Mucius added 9 points with a team-high 7 rebounds. Childress leads Wake Forest in scoring and assists with an average of 15.3 points and 4.7 assists per game while Sarr leads the Demon Deacons in rebounding with 9.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Wake Forest is averaging 71.8 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 34.1% from behind the arc and 74.6% from the foul line this season.
The Syracuse Orange will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 97-88 loss to Duke last time out. Marek Dolezaj led the Orange with 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 6 rebounds while Elijah Hughes came right behind with 21 points and Joseph Girard III added 17 points with a team-high 7 assists and 4 steals. Buddy Boeheim added 13 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Syracuse in the losing effort while Bourama Sidibe had 8 points with a team-high 7 rebounds and Quincy Guerrier matched his 7 points with a team-high 7 boards as well. Hughes leads Syracuse in scoring and assists with an average of 19.4 points and 4 assists per game while Sidibe leads the Orange in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Syracuse is averaging 73.9 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 73.3% from the foul line this season.
Wake Forest is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 7-19 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games following a loss. Syracuse is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The points with Wake Forest are definitely tempting as both teams have played their fair share of close games lately, but I just have my concerns about Wake Forest on the road as the Deon Deacons are allowing a whopping 77.8 points per game away from home and are being outscored by 10.1 points per game. Wake Forest isn’t a world beater and doesn’t have the name appeal of teams like Duke or the like, but the Carrier Dome can be a tough place to play, especially when the zone defense comes in and the threes start falling for the Orange. I just think this is a game that Syracuse starts to pull away in as the second half goes on, so I’ll lay the points with the Orange here.
