The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Little Rock Trojans meet in Sun Belt conference college basketball action from the Jack Stephens Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after an 83-77 loss to Coastal Carolina last time out. Caleb Fields led the Red Wolves with 21 points on 5 of 11 shooting with a 10 of 15 mark from the foul line while J.J. Matthews added 19 points with a 15 of 17 mark from the charity stripe. Marquis Eaton added 15 points and Malik Brevard added 14 points with a team-high 8 rebounds to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Arkansas State in the losing effort. Eaton leads Arkansas State in scoring with an average of 11.5 points per game while Brevard leads the Red Wolves in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game and Fields leads A-State in assists with 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Arkansas State is averaging 70.8 points per game on 44.1% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 70.5% from the foul line this season.
The Little Rock Trojans will look to add to their current six-game winning streak after a 93-86 win over Appalachian State last time out. Ben Coupet Jr. led the Trojans with 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting while Markquis Nowell added 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 5 threes and team-highs of 13 assists and 4 steals for the double-double. Kamani Johnson, Ruot Monyyong and Marko Lukic each had 12 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Little Rock in the win with Johnson adding 6 rebounds to match his 6 assists while Monyyong added 6 rebounds with 3 blocks and 3 steals. Nowell leads Little Rock in scoring and assists with an average of 17.2 points and 5 assists per game while Monyyong leads the Trojans in rebounding with 10.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Little Rock is averaging 72 points per game on 47.2% shooting from the field, 34.6% from behind the 3-point line and 70.5% from the foul line this season.
Arkansas State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games overall while the over is 13-3-1 in their last 17 games following a loss. Little Rock is 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. The underdog is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams.
The points with Arkansas State are tempting as the Red Wolves have shown the ability to hold their own lately. However, A-State didn’t look all that good against Coastal Carolina, especially on defense, and the Trojans are not only playing some of the best ball in the Sun Belt, but the Trojans are miles ahead of what Coastal Carolina is bringing to the table this season. This is a lot of points to give up, but the Trojans form at home has been too good. I’ll lay the points with Little Rock here.
