The Elon Phoenix won their 2nd straight game and improved to 8-17 (4-8 CAA) on the season after defeating the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 62-56, this past Thursday night. Elon was solid on the defensive end agianst the Seahawks and was able to hold on for the victory in the 2nd half after taking a 30-23 lead at halftime. Elon held UNC Wilmington to just 36.2% shooting from the field & 17.6% from beyond the arc while also forcing the Seahawks into committing 18 turnovers. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Marcus Sheffield II who had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Elon is averaging 68.2 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 9.7 three-pointers per game on 35.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Marcus Sheffield II (17.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.6 apg), Hunter McIntosh (10.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.8 apg), and Hunter Woods (10.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 71.9 ppg on 43.6% shooing from beyond the arc. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -2.0 and a turnover margin of 0.0.
The Charleston Cougars won their 3rd straight game and improved to 15-9 (9-3 CAA) on the season after defeating the William & Mary Tribe, 68-50, this past Thursday night. Charleston was outstanding agianst the talented William & Mary offense and pulled away in the 2nd half after taking a 57-47 lead with 7:11 left in regulation. Charleston shot 47.4% from the field while holding William & Mary to just 33.3% shooting from the field and 17.4% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Cougars was Brevin Galloway who had 23 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 4 steals.
On the season, Charleston is averaging 71.7 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Charleston has been led by Grant Riller (21.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.5 spg), Brevin Galloway (11.9 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.8 apg, 2.1 spg), and Sam Miller (8.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 bpg).
Defensively, Charleston is allowing their opponents to average 67.2 ppg on 41.5% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of -1.9 and a turnover margin of 1.2.
The Phoenix are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Cougars are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400.
Elon has won 3 of their last 4 games, however, it’s been a struggle on both ends of the court for the Phoenix this season as they come into this game ranked just 263rd in scoring offense, 308th in FG%, and 249th in scoring defense.
Charleston has won 4 of their last 5 games and come into this game ranked 163rd in scoring offense, 121st in scoring defense, and 119th in defensive FG%.
Charleston has picked some solid wins as of late over Towson & William & Mary, however, the Cougars are still a tough team to get a read on as they recently lost, at home, to the 7-18 UNC Wilmington Seahawks. Elon hasn’t had much success at Charleston over the past few years, however, the Phoenix are a decent shooting team from beyond the arc and as I expect a bit of a let down by the Cougars after their solid win against William & Mary, I think Elon does just enough to cover with the points.
