The Georgia Southern Eagles and the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks meet in Sun Belt college basketball action from the Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Thursday night.
The Georgia Southern Eagles come into this game looking to bounce back after a 79-69 loss to South Alabama in their last outing. Ike Smith and Quan Jackson led the Eagles with a team-high 23 points apiece, with Smith shooting 9 of 17 with 5 threes, 10 rebounds and 3 steals while Jackson had 4 threes. Elijah McCadden added 4 points with a team-high 6 assists while Isaiah Crawley added 6 points with 12 rebounds as well in the losing effort. Smith leads Georgia Southern in scoring and rebounding with 14.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while Calvin Wishart leads the Eagles in assists with 2.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgia Southern is averaging 76.2 points per game on 42.8% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 69.2% from the foul line this season.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will look to snap an eight-game losing streak after a 68-54 loss to UT-Arlington last time out. Tyree White led the Warhawks with 11 points along with a team-high 7 rebounds while Michael Ertel added 10 points with 3 assists as the only other ULM player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Langston Powell added 5 points with 3 assists and a pair of blocks while Josh Nicholas added 5 points with 7 rebounds. Ertel leads Louisiana-Monroe in scoring and assists with an average of 15.3 points and 2.9 assists per game while White leads the Warhawks in rebounding with 5.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Louisiana-Monroe is averaging 62.1 points per game on 42.1% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 67.3% from the foul line this season.
Georgia Southern is 4-0-2 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games as a road favorite while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Louisiana-Monroe is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 40-12-1 in their last 53 home games. The home team is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Normally points with a home dog are at least worth a look for me. However, ULM is the worst team in the Sun Belt right now, and the Warhawks aren’t covering the number either. Georgia Southern has done a good job beating up on the lower teams that have stood in their way, and I just don’t see this game being any different. I’ll lay the points with Georgia Southern in what I see being a double-digit victory here for the Eagles.
