The Wofford Terriers and the VMI Keydets meet in SoCon college basketball action from Cameron Hall on Wednesday night.
The Wofford Terriers will look to build on an 80-56 win over Samford last time out. Chevez Goodwin led the way with 16 points on 8 of 13 shooting with 10 rebounds for the double-double while Isaiah Bigelow added 14 points with 8 rebounds and Messiah Jones chipped in 13 points. Nathan Hoover added 11 points with 3 threes to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Wofford in the winning effort. Storm Murphy added 7 points with 3 assists and 3 steals while Ryan Larson added a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals. Hoover leads Wofford in scoring with 14.7 points per game while Goodwin leads the Terriers in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game and Murphy leads Wofford in assists with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Wofford is averaging 73 points per game on 46% shooting from the field, 35.7% from behind the arc and 73.1% from the foul line this season.
The VMI Keydets will look to bounce back after a heartbreaking 74-72 loss to Furman last time out. Greg Parham led the way with 19 poing on 8 of 13 shooting with 3 threes while Jake Stephens added 12 points as the only other double-digit scorer for VMI in the losing effort. Garrett Gilkeson and Kamdyn Curfman each had 9 points while Travis Evee added 4 points with 3 steals. Evee leads VMI in scoring with an average of 12.5 points per game while Gilkeson leads the Keydets in rebounding and assists with an average of 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, VMI is averaging 72.2 points per game on 42.7% shooting from the field, 35.5% from behind the arc and 72% from the foul line this season.
Wofford is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games as a road favorite while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. VMI is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 29-14 in their last 43 games overall. The favorite is 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Wofford isn’t the same team that we’ve become accustomed to seeing dominate the SoCon in the last couple of years, but the Terriers are still a legitimate team to watch out for once the conference tournament rolls around in a few weeks. VMI on the other hand has had their moments this season, but the Keydets are still a long ways off and I just see the Terriers pulling away as the second half goes on, so I’ll lay the points with Wofford here.
