The Southern Illinois Salukis and the Evansville Purple Aces meet in college basketball action from Ford Center on Wednesday.
Southern Illinois enters this game at 13-10 overall. The Salukis are riding a five-game win streak, taking out Drake, Northern Iowa, Illinois State, Loyola and Drake again during that stretch.
In the win over the Bulldogs, Southern Illinois’ Marcus Domask led the team on 28 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Barret Benson also had a nice line there with 16 points, five assists and six rebounds.
Over on the Evansville side, they’re 9-14 overall. The Aces are on a 10-game losing streak right now, dropping to Missouri State, Drake, Valparaiso, Illinois State and Northern Iowa in their last five.
In the loss to the Panthers, Evansville was led by Evan Kuhlman, KJ Riley and Sam Cunliffe, who each scored 14 points. That trio combined for 13 rebounds and four assists in the game as well.
The Aces are 0-11 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. Evansville is 1-9 ATS in their last 10 overall and the under is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Salukis are 5-0 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games. Southern Illinois is 5-0 ATS in their last five overall and the under is 10-3 in their last 13 overall.
Southern Illinois has looked pretty impressive on the defensive end lately. Prior to giving up 72 versus Drake (in a solid road victory), the Salukis had held opponents to 66 points or fewer over a four-win span despite not topping 68 themselves.
As for Evansville, there’s not much they’re doing well right now; their last win was back on December 12, and even after hanging 79 on Valparaiso they still lost by two. I can’t see a whole lot of scenarios where the Aces win (or even get close) here, so Southern Illinois seems like the after pick.
