The Idaho State Bengals will travel to the America First Events Center to take on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Idaho State Bengals lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 6-13 (3-7 Big Sky) on the season after being defeated by the Northern Colorado Bears, 83-67, this past Thursday night. Idaho State struggled defensively against Northern Colorado and couldn’t fight after the Bears took a 67-54 lead with 8:22 left in regulation. Idaho State shot 47.4% from the field however, allowed Northern Colorado to shoot 53.7% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bengals was Malik Porter who had 25 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Idaho State is averaging 68.3 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field. The Bengals are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Idaho State has been led by Tarik Cool (13.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.6 apg), Chier Maker (12.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg), and Jared Stutzman (10.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.7 apg).
Defensively, Idaho State is allowing their opponents to average 70.0 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Bengals have a rebound margin of 2.7 and a turnover margin of -2.7.
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds dropped to 12-8 (5-4 Big Sky) on the season after being defeated by the Weber State Wildcats, 75-65, this past Thursday night. Southern Utah trailed by a 32-26 margin at halftime and couldn’t fight back after a 12-0 Wildcats run gave Weber State a 70-53 lead with just 1:22 left in regulation. Southern Utah struggled offensively agianst the Wildcats, shooting just 35.7% from the field and 24.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Thunderbirds was Andre Adams who had 17 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Southern Utah is averaging 74.0 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Thunderbirds are averaging 6.5 three-pointers per game on 33.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Southern Utah has been led by Cameron Oluyitan (13.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.6 spg), John Knight III (12.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Dwayne Morgan (10.7 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Southern Utah is holding their opponents to an average of 63.7 ppg on 38.6% shooting from the field. The Thunderbirds have a rebound margin of 6.4 and a turnover margin of -0.5.
The Bengals are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Thunderbirds are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400, however, are just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games.
Idaho State comes into this game ranked 263rd in scoring offense, 199th in scoring defense, and 324th in defensive FG%.
Southern Utah has been solid on both ends of the court this season and come into this game ranked 110th in scoring offense, 52nd in scoring defense, and 23rd in defensive FG%.
Southern Utah has a less than stellar effort in their recent home game agianst Weber State, however, the Thunderbirds have covered ATS in five of their last six games against Idaho State, including a 71-55 victory on the road earlier this season. Idaho Sate currently has just a 2-8 record on the road this season and as I think their offense is going to struggle to put up points in this match-up, I’m taking Southern Utah to cover this double-digit spread. Good Luck!
