The George Washington Colonials and the Richmond Spiders meet in A-10 conference college basketball action from the Robins Center on Saturday evening.
The George Washington Colonials will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 107-104 quadruple-overtime win over Davidson last time out. Maceo Jack led the Colonials with 35 points on 12 of 19 shooting with 7 threes and 7 rebounds while Jamison Battle added 25 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and 7 rebounds of his own. Chase Paar added 13 points with a team-high 11 rebounds for the double-double while Jameer Nelson Jr. added 12 points with 10 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists for a double-double of his own. Armando Toro added 11 points with 6 rebounds to round out the group of double-digit scorers for GW in the victory. Armel Potter added 4 points with 5 assists as well in the victory, but still leads George Washington in scoring and assists with an average of 14.5 points and 5.5 assists per game while Toro leads the Colonials in rebounding with 8.3 boards per game this season. As a team, George Washington is averaging 69.2 points per game on 42.7% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 72.6% from the foul line this season.
The Richmond Spiders will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after an 87-68 loss to VCU last time out. Grant Golden led the Spiders with 24 points on 10 of 20 shooting with a team-high 8 rebounds and 3 steals while Nathan Cayo added 13 points with 7 boards and Jacob Gilyard chipped in 10 points with a team-high 5 assists and 3 steals to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Richmond in the defeat. Blake Francis continues to miss time with a chest injury but he still leads Richmond in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game while Golden leads the Spiders in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game and Gilyard leads the Spiders in assists with 5.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Richmond is averaging 75.8 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 37.2% from behind the arc and 80.4% from the foul line this season.
George Washington is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games following a win. Richmond is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. The home team is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I get Richmond being favored at home and because the Spiders have been the better team over the course of the year, but the Colonials showed some grit in going basically a game and a half against Davidson last time out, and if we’re being honest, Richmond hasn’t looked like the same team that was covering the number left and right to start the year. I just think that the Colonials come into this game with a bit of confidence after the win, and as such, I’ll take my chances with George Washington and the points in this one.
