The North Texas Mean Green (14-8, 8-1 CONF) and the Rice Owls (9-13, 1-8 CONF) will meet on Saturday, February 1st for a Conference USA matchup at the Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, TX.
North Texas has been on a roll as of late, winning eight straight games. The Mean Green are coming off a 67-57 home win over UTEP in their last game. Rice has struggled lately, as their current losing streak was extended to five games after their most recent loss at home vs UTSA, 90-88. Rice has only one win in conference play, and the last time they played North Texas, they lost 79-59 on the road.
North Texas has played exceptional defense this season, only allowing 62.0 points per game to opposing teams. North Texas has scored timely points this season, averaging 71.2 points per game on offense on 47.7% FG shooting. The high Field Goal % does suggest that either North Texas has amazing shooters, or they are bound to hit a regression soon on offense. North Texas also earns 33.3 rebounds, 12.6 assists, 2.7 blocks, and 7.0 steals per game as well.
Rice, unlike North Texas, has struggled on the defensive side of the ball, giving up 75.7 points per game. Rice has faired pretty well on offense, however, as they average 72.9 points per game. Rice also earns 35.9 rebounds, 13.8 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 6.0 steals per game.
North Texas is 15-4-1 ATS this season and 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games. North Texas is also 6-2 ATS on the road so far this season. Rice is 8-12 ATS this season and 2-8 ATS in their last ten games. Rice is also 4-4 ATS at home so far this season.
North Texas has been playing really good basketball lately, and Rice has done the exact opposite. With two teams trending in different directions, it only makes sense for me to hop on the Mean Green train and lay the 8.5 points on the road with North Texas.
