The Northeastern Huskies will travel to the Schar Center to take on the Elon Phoenix this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Northeastern Huskies dropped to 11-11 (5-5 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the William & Mary Tribe, 59-58, this past Thursday night. Northeastern was strong defensively against the Tribe and led by a 58-57 margin with just :06 seconds left in regulation, however, couldn’t secure the lead after William & Mary’s Nathan Knight drove the length of the court and scored the game-winning lay-up for the Tribe with just 1.5 seconds remaining. Northeastern lost despite holding William & Mary to just 37.3% shooting from the field and 11.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Huskies was Jordan Roland who had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal.
On the season, Northeastern is averaging 72.5 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Huskies are averaging 8.9 three-pointers per game on 39.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northeastern has been led by Jordan Roland (23.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.7 spg), Tyson Walker (11.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.7 spg), and Bolden Brace (10.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Northeastern is allowing their opponents to average 66.6 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Huskies have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of 0.5.
The Elon Phoenix dropped to 6-17 (2-8 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Hofstra Pride, 86-63, this past Thursday night. Elon had no answers for the Hofstra offense in this one and couldn’t fight back after the Pride took a 63-47 lead midway through the 2nd half. Elon shot just 22.7% from beyond the arc, while allowing Hofstra to shoot 52.6% from the field and 48.4% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Marcus Sheffield II who had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Elon is averaging 68.2 ppg on 40.5% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 9.9 three-pointers per game on 35.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Marcus Sheffield II (17.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.7 apg), Hunter Woods (10.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg), and Hunter McIntosh (9.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 3.0 apg).
Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 72.7 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -1.8 and a turnover margin of 0.0.
The Huskies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games, however, are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS win. The Phoenix are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up loss and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.
Northeastern has been solid offensively this season as the Huskies rank 143rd in scoring offense and 20th in FG%, however, the Huskies have struggled at defensively this season and currently rank just 298th in defensively FG%.
Elon has been strong offensively when it comes from beyond the arc as the Phoenix rank 18th in three-pointers made per game & 78th in 3P-FG%, however, it’s overall been a struggle on both ends of the court as the Phoenix rank just 266th in scoring offense and 264th in scoring defense.
Northeastern is the better team, but the Huskies have struggled as of late, losing 5 of their last 7 games. Elon is always a risky team to roll with as you need them to produce from beyond the arc, however, between the fact that Elon has covered in their last two games against the Huskies and that the Phoenix have won 2 of their last 3 home games, I think the Phoenix do enough in this one to cover with the points. Good Luck!
