The Ohio Bobcats and the Ball State Cardinals meet in college basketball MAC-tion from the Worthen Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Ohio Bobcats will look for a win after losing 3 straight and 7 of their last 9 games following a 61-59 loss to Northern Illinois last time out. Ben Vander Plas led the Bobcats with 18 oints on 7 of 10 shooting with a team-high 8 rebounds while Lunden McDay added 13 points with 3 threes and Jason Preston added 10 points on 5 of 9 shooting with 7 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Ohio in the losing effort. Preston leads Ohio in scoring and assists with an average of 16.1 points and 7.5 assists per game while Vander Plas leads the Bobcats in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Ohio is averaging 71.3 points per game on 45% shooting from the field, 35% from behind the arc and 66.3% from the foul line this season.

The Ball State Cardinals will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 67-61 loss to Bowling Green last time out. Tahjai Teague led the way with 18 points including 3 threes and 11 rebounds for the double-double while Ishmael El-Amin added 17 points with 5 rebounds and Jarron Coleman added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Ball State in the losing effort. Teague leads Ball State in scoring and rebounding with an average of 15 points and 9 rebounds per game while Coleman leads the Cardinals in assists with 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Ball State is averaging 70.7 points per game on 43.3% shooting from the field, 33.3% from behind the arc and 65.1% from the foul line this season.

Ohio is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Ball State is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 7-3-1 in their last 11 games following a loss. The road team is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and the underdog is 19-6-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings between these two teams.

I get Ball State being favored here at home, but the problem for me is that the Bobcats haven’t been getting killed during this recent losing stretch, and I’m not sure that Ball State is this many points better than the Bobcats, at this stage of the season either. I just think this game is a 4-5 point game so I’ll take my chances with Ohio and the points in this one.
