The Manhattan Jaspers and the Saint Peter’s Peacocks meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the Yanitelli Center on Friday night.
The Manhattan Jaspers will be out to snap a three-game losing streak after a 67-63 loss to Rider in their last outing. Pauly Paulicap led the Jaspers with 18 points along with 11 rebounds and 5 blocks for the double-double while Samir Stewart added 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 7 assists. Warren Williams added 10 points on 4 of 5 shooting to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Manhattan in the losing effort. Tykei Greene added 7 points but still leads the Jaspers in scoring with an average of 10.9 points per game while Paulicap leads Manhattan in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per game and Stewart leads the Jaspers in assists with 3.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Manhattan is averaging 63.8 points per game on 39.6% shooting from the field, 32.2% from 3-point range and 62.9% from the foul line this season.
The Saint Peter’s Peacocks will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 66-63 win over Monmouth in their last outing. Aaron Estrada led the Peacocks with 11 points while Daryl Banks III and Dallas Watson each had 10 points with Banks III adding a pair of steals while Watson shot 4 of 8 with a pair of threes to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for the Peacocks in the winning effort. KC Ndefo and Hassan Drame each had 6 points with a team-high 9 rebounds as well in the victory. Banks III leads the Peacocks in scoring with an average of 8.6 points per game while Drame leads Saint Peter’s in rebounding with 5.7 rebounds per game and Matthew Lee leads Saint Peter’s in assists with 2.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Saint Peter’s is averaging 64.5 points per game on 39.5% shooting from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range and 69.7% from the foul line this season.
Manhattan is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a winning home record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600 while the under is 34-15-2 in their last 51 games following a loss. Saint Peter’s is 11-4 in their last 15 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a win while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 Friday games. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I get Saint Peter’s being favored at home, but the problem I have is that both teams have been playing almost identical over the last few games and I’m not sure if I can find an angle that makes sense as to why I’d lay this many points with the Peacocks. Every place I look this game just feels like a coin flip so I’ll take a shot with Manhattan and the free buckets in this one.
