The Marshall Thundering Herd and the FIU Panthers meet in college basketball action from FIU Arena on Thursday.
The Herd enter this game at 9-12 overall. Marshall is just 1-4 in their last five games, beating Old Dominion while otherwise falling to UAB, Charlotte, and Western Kentucky twice.
In most recent loss to the Hilltoppers, Marshall’s lead scorer was Taevion Kinsey with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jarrod West also doubled up there for the Herd with 15 points, 11 assists and six rebounds.
Over on the FIU side, they’re 14-7 this year. The Panthers are 2-3 in their last five games, beating Middle Tennessee and UAB while otherwise falling to North Texas, Rice and Charlotte.
In the loss to the 49ers, FIU’s top scorer was Eric Lovett with 15 points and three rebounds. Also in double-figures there was Antonio Daye with 12 points, two assists and one rebound for the Panthers.
The Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. FIU is 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and the under is 9-3 in their last 12 home games.
Meanwhile, the Herd are 5-17-1 ATS in their last 23 after a straight-up loss and 0-7 ATS in their last seven overall. The over is 6-1 in Marshall’s last seven raid games and 4-1 in their last five Thursday games.
Marshall got some nice performances offensively in their game versus WKU, but after a 10-point halftime deficit it was just too much to overcome. It was a good scoring wakeup for the Herd however, as they’d scored more than 68 just once in their previous four games.
As for FIU, they had three straight games with at least 78 points scored but hit the wall against Charlotte with just 49 points following a disastrous second half. I’m not thrilled about the Panthers right now but I think their offense can bounce back in this one. I’m going FIU on the cover.
