The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Little Rock trojans meet in Sun Belt conference college basketball action from the Jack Stephens Center on Thursday night.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will be out to snap a three-game losing streak after a 78-58 loss to Appalachian State in their last outing. DeVante Jones led the Chanticleers with 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting with a team-high 8 rebounds while Tommy Burton added 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting with 7 rebounds of his own. Keishawn Brewton added 11 points with a pair of steals and a pair of blocks to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for the Chanticleers in the loss. Jones leads Coastal Carolina in scoring and assists with an average of 15.3 points and 5.7 assists per game while Burton leads the Chanticleers in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Coastal Carolina is averaging 77.9 points per game on 44.8% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the arc and 69.5% from the foul line this season.
The Little Rock Trojans will look to add to their current four-game winning streak after a 73-71 win over South Alabama last time out. Markquis Nowell led the Trojans with 22 points on 7 of 17 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 4 assists while Ben Coupet Jr. added 15 points with 3 assists and Jovan Stulic added 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting with 4 threes. Ruot Monyyong added 11 points with 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks for the double-double to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for Little Rock in the win. Nowell leads Little Rock in scoring and assists with an average of 17.4 points and 4.4 assists per game while Monyyong leads the Trojans in rebounding with an average of 10.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Little Rock is averaging 70 points per game on 46.4% shooting from the field, 34% from behind the arc and 68.7% from the foul line this season.
Coastal Carolina is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 8-1 in their last 9 road games. Little Rock is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games following a win. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’d like to think that the Chanticleers would show up and compete here, but the problem is that the Trojans are playing arguably the best basketball in the Sun Belt right now and these two teams are just headed in different directions right now. Coastal lost the first meeting between these two at home just a few games ago by 16 points, and it’s hard for me to think that the result would improve with the Trojans being at home here, so I’ll lay the points with Little Rock in this one.
