The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers and the Southern Illinois Salukis meet in MVC college basketball action from the Banterra Center on Wednesday night.
The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers will look to bounce back after a 67-62 overtime loss to Northern Iowa last time out. Cameron Krutwig led the Ramblers with 19 points on 9 of 19 shooting with a team-high 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the double-double. Lucas Williamson came right behind in 2nd with 18 points including 3 threes while Tate Hall added 10 points to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Loyola-Chicago in the losing effort. Krutwig leads Loyola-Chicago with an average of 15.2 points, 4.5 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Loyola-Chicago is averaging 69.5 points per game on 50.9% shooting from the field, 37.3% from behind the arc and 67.5% from the foul line this season.
The Southern Illinois Salukis will look to add to their current three-game winning streak after a 58-55 victory over Illinois State last time out. Marcus Domask led the Salukis with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting with 4 threes and 6 rebounds while Eric McGill added 15 points with 3 assists and Lance Jones chipped in 12 points to finish off the scoring in double figures for SIU in the win. As a team, Southern Illinois is averaging 62.4 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the 3-point line and 71.8% from the foul line this season.
Loyola-Chicago is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 road games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games as a road favorite. Southern Illinois is 8-0 ATS in their last 8 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games as a home underdog. The home team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Both of these teams play solid defense and Loyola is better offensively on the year so I get the Ramblers being favored. However, the Ramblers let me down against Northern Iowa and while the Salukis aren’t necessarily on the same plane as UNI, Southern Illinois is playing well right now and are definitely worth a shot as a home dog here so I’ll take the Salukis and the points in this one.
