The Missouri State Bears and the Northern Iowa Panthers meet in MVC conference college basketball action from the McLeod Center on Wednesday night.
The Missouri State Bears will look to rebound from a 71-69 loss to Drake last time out. Gaige Prim led the Bears with 23 points along with 12 rebounds for the double-double while Isiaih Mosley added 16 points on 7 of 14 shooting with 8 rebounds and Keandre Cook added 12 points with a team-high 13 rebounds and 3 blocks for a double-double of his own to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Missouri State in the losing effort. Ford Cooper JR. also chipped in a team-high 5 assists as well in the defeat. Cook leads Missouri State in scoring with an average of 15.4 points per game while Tulio Da Silva leads the Bears in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game and Tyrik Dixon leads Missouri State in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Missouri State is averaging 67.2 points per game on 42.7% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the arc and 75.4% from the foul line this season.
The Northern Iowa Panthers will look to build on a 67-62 overtime win over Loyola-Chicago last time out. Austin Phyfe and AJ Green each had a team-high 14 points with 3 assists with Phyfe shooting 6 of 9 with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks while Green added a pair of triples. Antwan Kimmons added 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting with a pair of steals while Trae Berhow added 11 points with 3 threes along with a team-high 12 rebounds and a pair of steals to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Northern Iowa in the win. Green leads Northern Iowa in scoring and assists with an average of 19.2 points and 3.1 assists per game while Phyfe leads the Panthers in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Northern Iowa is averaging 76.4 points per game on 48.5% shooting from the field, 38.8% from behind the arc and 76.1% from the foul line this season.
Missouri State is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the under is 13-6 in their last 19 road games against a team with a winning home record. Northern Iowa is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 home games. The road team is 31-13-1 ATS in the last 45 meetings between these two teams.
I get Northern Iowa being favored at home, but as good as the Panthers have been, they haven’t really been blowing teams away and the Panthers rely on their defense to close things out down the stretch. Missouri State hasn’t been great, but they just took a pretty good Drake team down to the wire and are only being outscored by 1 point per game in conference play this season. I think the Bears are capable of keeping this one to single digits so I’ll take Missouri State and the points in this one.
