The Bowling Green Falcons and the Toledo Rockets meet in college basketball action from the Savage Arena on Saturday night.
The Bowling Green Falcons will look to keep their momentum going after winning a 5th straight game following a 62-59 win over Eastern Michigan last time out. Justin Turner led the Falcons with 25 points on 9 of 18 shooting with 3 threes and 7 rebounds while Daeqwon Plowden added 17 points with a team-high 9 rebounds and 3 steals as the only other double-digit scorer for Bowling Green in the winning effort. Dylan Frye also chipped in 6 points with a team-high 4 assists while Michael Laster added 4 assists of his own. Turner leads Bowling Green in scoring with an average of 17.5 points per game while Plowden leads the Falcons in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game and Frye leads Bowling Green in assists with 4.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Bowling Green is averaging 75.2 points per game on 42.1% shooting from the field, 32.2% from behind the arc and 74.2% from the foul line this season.
The Toledo Rockets will look to build on back-to-back wins after an 83-74 win over Ohio last time out. Marreon Jackson led the Rockets with 29 points on 9 of 18 shooting with 5 threes while Luke Knapke added 22 points on 9 of 16 shooting with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Dylan Alderson chipped in 11 points and Keshaun Saunders added 10 points to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Rockets in the victory while Willie Jackson fell one point shy of a double-double with 9 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Marreon Jackson leads Toledo in scoring and assists with an average of 18.8 points and 6.2 assists per game while Willie Jackson leads the Rockets in rebounding with 12.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Toledo is averaging 77.3 points per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, 37.8% from the 3-point line and 73.1% from the foul line this season.
Bowling Green is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-11-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Toledo is 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I know it’s not always a hard case to make in backing a team that’s won 5 in a row the way that Bowling Green has. However, as much as I like the way the Falcons are playing, they also can’t cover a spread even if their lives depended on it. Toledo is coming off of a pair of solid road wins including a 10-point win over Akron, almost hitting the century mark against arguably the best team in the MAC right now. The Rockets are also averaging 79.4 points per game at home and outscoring teams by 15.4 points per game while the Falcons give up 75.6 points per game on the road this season. I just need to see Bowling Green cover the number before I start backing them again so I’ll side with Toledo in this one.
