The Rhode Island Rams will travel to the Reilly Center to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Rhode Island Rams won their 5th straight game and improved to 13-5 (5-1 A-10) on the season after defeating the Duquesne Dukes, 77-55, this past Wednesday night. Rhode Island went into halftime trailing by a 38-30 margin, however, dominated Duquesne on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and pulled away after taking a 61-50 lead with 7:31 left in regulation. Rhode Island shot 49.2% from the field while holding Duquesne to just 32.7% shooting from the field and 21.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Rams was Fatts Russell who had 23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.
On the season, Rhode Island is averaging 73.6 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 5.3 three-pointers per game on 30.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Rhode Island has been led by Fatts Russell (19.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.7 apg, 3.3 spg), Jeff Dowtin (13.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.1 spg), and Cyril Langevine (9.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.7 bpg).
Defensively, Rhode Island is allowing their opponents to average 68.2 ppg on 40.6% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of 0.8 and a turnover margin of 3.7.
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 12-7 (4-2 A-10) on the season after being defeated by the 7th ranked Dayton Flyers, 86-60, this past Wednesday. St. Bonaventure had no answers on the defensive end against Dayton and couldn’t fight back after the Bonnies went into halftime trailing by a 47-29 margin. St. Bonaventure allowed Dayton to shoot 64.8% from the field and 40.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bonnies was Jaren English who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal.
On the season, St. Bonaventure is averaging 67.6 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Bonnies are averaging 6.6 three-pointers per game on 33.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, St. Bonaventure has been led by Kyle Lofton (14.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 6.4 apg, 1.4 spg), Jaren English (11.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.2 apg), and Dominick Welch (10.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, St. Bonaventure is holding their opponents to an average of 64.5 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Bonnies have a rebound margin of 2.6 and a turnover margin of 1.5.
The Rams are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Bonnies are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS loss.
Rhode Island has been led by their defense this season as the Rams come into this game ranked T-155th in scoring defense, 91st in defensive FG%, 18th in steals per game, and 23rd in turnover margin.
St. Bonaventure has been led by their defense that ranks T-67th in scoring defense, however, the Bonnies have struggled offensively as they come into this game ranked just 277th in scoring offense and 226th in FG%.
St. Bonaventure has been great ATS at home as of late, however, the Rhode Island is just the better team in this one and think the Rams defense is going to give the Bonnies offense trouble in this one. Rhode Island has been solid on the road this season, including a recent 65-56 victory at VCU, and I think that Fatts Russell and company do enough in this one to cover this small road spread. Take Rhode Island to cover.
