The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet in Sun Belt conference college basketball action from the Cajundome on Saturday night.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will be out to snap a five-game losing streak after a 78-58 loss to UT-Arlington in their last outing. Tyree White led the Warhawks with 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting while JD Williams added 14 points with a team-high 5 rebounds as the only other double-digit scorer for ULM in the losing effort. Jalen Hodge added 3 assists as well for the Warhawks in the defeat. Michael Ertel had just 6 points but he still leads ULM in scoring and assists with an average of 15.6 points and 2.9 assists per game while Williams leads the Warhawks in rebounding with 5.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Louisiana-Monroe is averaging 63.3 points per game on 42.6% shooting from the field, 35.2% from behind the arc and 67.6% from the foul line this season.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will also be looking to snap a losing streak, theirs at 4 games following a 68-59 loss to Texas State in their last outing. Jalen Johnson led the Cajuns with 18 points along with 7 rebounds while Dou Gueye and P.J. Hardy each had 11 points to cap off the scoring in double figures for Louisiana in the losing effort. Tirus Smith added 8 points and a team-high 9 rebounds while Calvin Temple added a team-high 5 assists in the defeat. Johnson leads Louisiana in scoring and rebounding with an average of 14.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while Trajan Wesley leads the Cajuns in assists with 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Louisiana is averaging 70.2 points per game on 40.6% shooting from the field, 32.4% from behind the arc and 72.2% from the foul line this season.
Louisiana-Monroe is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 43-17 in their last 60 road games. Louisiana is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not going anywhere near this game between two of the worst teams in the Sun Belt this season, not with a ten-foot pole. However, as bad as both teams have been, someone’s losing streak has to end and I think it’ll be the Cajuns’ streak to go bye-bye. ULM is just awful on the road, averaging just a measly 54.1 points per game and are being outscored by 17.6 points per game away from home this season. The Cajuns don’t have a ton of advantages, but one that they do have is playing at home where they’re outscoring teams by 4 points per game and putting up over 75 points per game this season. If forced to pick, the Ragin’ Cajuns at home have to be the play here.
