The Northern Colorado Bears and the Idaho Vandals meet in Big Sky conference college basketball action from the Cowan Spectrum on Saturday.
The Northern Colorado Bears will look to rebound from a 64-58 loss to Northern Arizona last time out. Matt Johnson led the Bears with 17 points on 6 of 18 shooting with 5 threes while Bodie Hume added 13 points with 5 rebounds and Jonah Radebaugh chipped in 11 points with team-highs of 7 rebounds and 4 assists to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Northern Colorado in the loss. Kai Edwards added 7 rebounds as well in the losing effort. Radebaugh leads Northern Colorado in scoring and assists with an average of 15.6 points and 5.4 assists per game while Edwards leads Northern Colorado in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Northern Colorado is averaging 73.2 points per game on 44.3% shooting from the field, 36.6% from behind the arc and 67.1% from the foul line this season.
The Idaho Vandals could use a win after losing 3 straight and 6 of their last 7 games following a 67-63 loss to Montana last time out. Trevon Allen led the Vandals with 23 points on 6 of 15 shooting with a pair of threes and a 9 of 11 mark from the foul lint with a team-high 6 rebounds while Scott Blakney added 12 points as the only other double-digit scorer for Idaho in the losing effort. Allen leads Idaho in scoring with an average of 19.8 points per game while Quinton Forrest leads the Vandals in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game and Marquell Fraser leads Idaho in assists with 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Idaho is averaging 67.7 points per game on 45.1% shooting from the field, 31.3% from behind the arc and 67% from the foul line this season.
Northern Colorado is 12-5 ATS in their last 17 road games and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games as a road favorite while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Idaho is 3-0-2 ATS in their last 5 home games and 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I think it’s safe to say that Idaho is in dire need of a win, but the problem is that the Vandals haven’t been good in conference play and are only averaging 67.7 points on the year against a Northern Colorado team that’s top-25 in the nations, allowing just 61.3 points per game. Granted, Idaho has been on a heater ATS lately, and in this line of work that’s all we really care about, but I just think this is a bad matchup for the Vandals. I’m not betting this one personally, but if forced to pick I’d take Northern Colorado.
