The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the UAB Blazers meet in college basketball action from Bartow Arena on Thursday.
The Eagles enter this one at 5-14 so far. After a five-game losing streak to LA Tech (twice), UTEP, UTSA and North Texas, Southern Miss got a win their last time out versus Rice.
In the win over the Owls, Southern Miss’ Jay Malone posted 27 points with seven assists and four rebounds. Tyler Stevenson added 24 points with eight rebounds there, and Leonard Harper-Baker had 12 points with seven rebounds.
Over on the UAB side, they’re 12-7 this year. The Blazers are 3-1 in their last four games, falling to FIU and taking out Western KY, Marshall and Florida Atlantic otherwise in that stretch.
In the win over the Owls, UAB’s Tavin Govan put up 17 points with four rebounds. Both Will Butler and Kassim Nicholson added 14 points with five rebounds apiece there, and Jalen Benjamin had nine points.
UAB is 5-1 ATS in their last six home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 4-1-1 in the Blazers’ last six Thursday games and the under is 9-1-1 in their last 11 home games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. Southern Miss is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and the over is 4-1 in the last five road games.
Southern Miss has been pretty unreliable on the scoreboard lately. The Eagles posted a total of 99 combined points in their LA Tech games, and have hit 70 points in just two of four games since. The Eagles did hang 81 points on Rice however, so that’s something.
As for UAB, they’ve failed to crack 69 points in any of their last three outings, but they just aren’t naturally a high-scoring team anyway. I think the home boost here will help the Blazers, but there’s not a lot of intrigue otherwise.
