The Towson Tigers and the Elon Phoenix meet in college basketball action from Schar Center on Thursday.
Towson comes in here at 10-9 overall. The Tigers are riding a four-game winning streak right now, taking out UNCW, Drexel, Delaware and James Madison during that time.
In the win over the Dukes, Towson’s Brian Fobbs posted 21 points with five rebounds and one assist. Allen Batrand added 16 points with four rebounds there, and Nakye Sanders had 15 points with seven rebounds.
Over on the Elon side, they’re 5-15 this year. Following their latest win over UNC-Wilmington, the Phoenix have lost their last two versus Drexel and Delaware.
In the loss to the Hens, Elon’s Andy Pack topped the team on 16 points and four rebounds. Marcus Sheffield and Hunter Woods each scored 15 points there, combining for 11 rebounds and five assists.
Elon is 5-20-1 ATS in the last 26 Thursday games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five home games. The Phoenix are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 9-24 ATS in their last 33 after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and 4-0 ATS in their last four overall. Towson is 4-0 ATS in their last four versus a team with a losing straight-up record and the under is 5-1 in the last six road games.
Though they’ve had a couple of relative scoring duds in there, the Tigers have been pretty solid over their last four games. None of the outcomes was especially close (seven or more) and defensively Towson has played pretty well.
As for Elon, they’ve been all over the place in their last quartet, from 41 points versus Drexel to 80 versus UNCW. The Phoenix have the potential to put up some nice points totals but I just don’t trust them right now. I’m going with the Tigers on the cover.
