The La Salle Explorers and the Richmond Spiders meet in A-10 conference college basketball action from the Robins Center on Wednesday night.
The La Salle Explorers will be out to snap a three-game losing streak after a 66-63 loss to Rhode Island in their last outing. Isiah Deas led the Explorers with 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 3 threes, 5 rebounds and a pair of blocks while Scott Spencer added 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting with 4 threes and 3 steals as the only other double-digit scorer for La Salle in the losing effort. Ed Croswell added 7 points with a team-high 9 rebounds while Ayinde Hikim added 8 points with a team-high 5 assists. Deas leads La Salle in scoring with an average of 12.4 points per game while Croswell leads the Explorers in rebounding with 6.9 rebounds per game and Hikim leads La Salle in assists with 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, La Salle is averaging 69.4 points per game on 42.3% shooting from the field, 34.3% from behind the arc and 67.7% from the foul line this season.
The Richmond Spiders will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 97-87 win over George Mason in their last outing. Grant Golden led the Spiders with 25 points on 10 of 13 shooting while Jacob Gilyard added 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting with an 8 of 8 mark from the foul line, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Nick Sherod came right behind with 19 points on 7 of 10 shooting with 3 threes and Tyler Burton added 12 points with 6 rebounds to finish off the scoring in double figures for Richmond in the win. Blake Francis continues to miss time with a chest injury, but he still leads Richmond in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game while Golden leads the Spiders in rebounding with 7.3 rebounds per game and Gilyard leads the Spiders in assists with 5.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Richmond is averaging 76.1 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 37.3% from behind the arc and 81% from the foul line which is the 2nd-best free throw percentage in the country this season.
La Salle is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 road games against a team with a winning home record. Richmond is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 Wednesday games while the under Is 10-2 in their last 12 games following a win. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
I get Richmond being favored at home in this one, but the problem for me is that the Spiders have been inconsistent with their results as of late, and they’re winning games by 8 points per game in conference this season which wouldn’t cut it in this game. La Salle has been solid on the road this season in terms of covering the number, and are only being outscored by 1.4 points per game away from home this season. I’ll take a shot with La Salle and the points in this one.
