The Yale Bulldogs and the Howard Bison meet in college basketball action from the Burr Gymnasium on Monday afternoon.
The Yale Bulldogs will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 70-56 win over Brown last time out. Jordan Bruner led the Bulldogs with 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 4 threes and 7 rebounds while Paul Atkinson and Jalen Gabbidon each had 12 points to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Yale in the win with Atkinson adding 11 rebounds and 3 steals for the double-double while Gabbidon had a pair of threes and a pair of steals. Azar Swain and Eric Monroe each had a team-high 4 assists as well in the winning effort. Atkinson leads Yale in scoring with an average of 16.2 points per game while Bruner leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 9.5 rebounds per game and Monroe leads Yale in assists with 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Yale is averaging 75 points per game on 46.1% shooting from the field, 36.5% from behind the arc and 69.6% from the foul line this season.
The Howard Bison will look to snap a seven-game losing skid after a 68-56 loss to Morgan State in their last outing. Kyle Foster led Howard with 15 points on 5 of 5 shooting with 3 threes while Khalil Robinson and Charles Williams each added 12 points to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Howard in the loss with Williams adding 6 rebounds while Robinson had a team-high 3 assists. Zion Cousins added 8 points with 9 rebounds as well in the defeat for the Bison. Williams leads Howard in scoring with an average of 18.6 points per game while Cousins leads the Bison in rebounding with 7.7 rebounds per game and Robinson leads Howard in assists with 2.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Howard is averaging 68.4 points per game on 40.5% shooting from the field, 31.9% from behind the arc and 68% from the foul line this season.
Yale is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games and 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Howard is 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 8-21 ATS in their last 29 home games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games as a home underdog.
The Bulldogs are without question one of the best teams in the Ivy League this season, and Yale’s also played some stiff competition away from home. However, while Howard doesn’t pose a huge threat, you have to wonder how seriously Yale is going to take this game as the Bulldogs have bigger fish to fry in the Ivy League. I’m not saying that Yale doesn’t win this game, but this is a lot of points to lay on the road. Howard’s already played Penn and took Harard down to the wire so I’ll take a shot with Howard and the points in this one.
