The Texas Southern Tigers and the Grambling State Tigers meet in college basketball action from Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center on Monday.
Texas Southern enters this one at 6-11 so far. The Tigers have gone 3-1 in their last four games, with a loss to Alcorn State alongside wins over Southern U, Prairie View and Jackson State.
In the win over Jackson State, Texas Southern’s Bryson Etienne led the team on 27 points with six rebounds and five assists. Yahuza Rasas doubled up there with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Justin Hopkins added 12 points.
Over on the Grambling State side, they’re 9-9 so far. After three straight wins over Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Southern U, the Tigers have lost their last pair to Alcorn State and Prairie View.
In the loss to the Panthers, Grambling State’s Travon Bunch led the team on 14 points with nine rebounds. Trevell Cunningham added 11 points there, and Ivy Smith had 10 points with four rebounds.
The under is 5-1 in Grambling State’s last six overall and 5-0 in their last five home games. Grambling State is 0-5 ATS in their last five Monday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, Texas Southern is 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Monday games. TX Southern is 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Texas Southern has been playing pretty well lately, and they’ve shown they can be competitive against tough teams like Oregon (84-78 final score). Texas Southern has put up at least 71 points in each of their last four games as well.
As for Grambling, they’re more of a defense-oriented team but they haven’t played great over their last couple of outings. Initially I expect this one to be close but I think Texas Southern can pull away and cover in this battle of the Tigers.
