The Chattanooga Mocs and the UNC-Greensboro Spartans meet in SoCon college basketball action from the Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday night.
The Chattanooga Mocs will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 72.59 win over Wofford in their last outing. David Jean-Baptiste led the Mocs with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting team-highs of 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Matt Ryan came right behind with 17 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 3 threes. Ramon Vila added 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Chattanooga in the win while Rod Johnson added 6 rebounds and 3 assists of his own. Ryan leads Chattanooga in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game while Vila leads the Mocs in rebounding with 5.5 rebounds per game and Maurice Commander leads Chattanooga in assists with 2.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Chattanooga is averaging 72.1 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 36% from behind the arc and 67.7% from the foul line this season.
The UNC-Greensboro Spartans will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 79-69 win over the Citadel in their last outing. James Dickey led the Spartans with 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 12 rebounds and 3 steals for the double-double while Isaiah Miller added 13 points with 3 steals of his own. Angelo Allegri came right behind with 13 points and Malik Massey added 10 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for UNC-Greensboro in the win. Kaleb Hunter added 8 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals while Mohammed Abdulsalam added 7 rebounds as well in the victory. Miller leads UNC-Greensboro in scoring and assists with an average of 18.1 points and 3.1 assists per game while Dickey leads the Spartans in rebounding with an average of 8.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UNC-Greensboro is averaging 73.7 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field, 31.8% from behind the arc and 64.2% from the foul line this season.
Chattanooga is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. UNC-Greensboro is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games following a win.
You could make a case for either side as Chattanooga’s won back-to-back road games and hung with Virginia Tech on the road while UNC-Greensboro has played fairly well at home and barely lost to NC State at home. However, the difference for me is that Chattanooga is being outscored by 6.9 points per game on the road this season while UNC-Greensboro is outscoring their opponents by 21.3 points per game at home and allowing just 53.9 points per game against at home this season. I think the defense wins out here so I’ll side with the Spartans at home in this one.
