The Indiana Hoosiers will travel to Pinnacle Bank Arena to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Indiana Hoosiers had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-4 (3-3 Big Ten) on the season after being defeated by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 59-50, this past Wednesday. Indiana had no answers for the Rutgers defense and couldn’t fight back after Rutgers took a 45-28 lead with just 12:06 left in regulation. Indiana shot just 31.7% from the field and 10.5% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Hoosiers was Justin Smith who had 15 points, 7 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Indiana is averaging 74.6 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Hoosiers are averaging 5.0 three-pointers per game on 29.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Indiana has been led by Trayce Jackson-Davis (14.0 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.1 bpg), Justin Smith (12.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.4 spg), and Devonte Green (11.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Indiana is holding their opponents to an average of 65.8 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Hoosiers have a rebound margin of 8.6 and a turnover margin of -0.1.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 7-10 (2-4 Big Ten) on the season after being defeated by the 21st ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 80-68, this past Saturday. Nebraska struggled defensively against the Buckeyes and couldn’t fight back after Ohio State took a 38-25 lead at halftime lead. Nebraska allowed Ohio State to shoot 54.5% from the field and 45.5% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Cornhuskers was Thorir Thorbjarnarson who had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
On the season, Nebraska is averaging 72.5 ppg on 41.8% shooting from the field. The Cornhuskers are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Nebraska has been led by Haanif Cheatham (12.9 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.0 spg), Cam Mack (12.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 6.7 apg, 1.3 spg), and Dachon Burke Jr. (11.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, Nebraska is allowing their opponents to average 74.4 ppg on 42.8% shooting from the field. The Cornhuskers have a rebound margin of -10.0 and a turnover margin of 3.0.
The Hoosiers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games. The Cornhuskers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Indiana has lost 3 of their last 5 games and come into this game ranked 107th in scoring offense, 92nd in scoring defense, and 110th in defensive FG%.
Nebraska have lost 4 of their last 6 games and current rank 148th in scoring offense, 295th in scoring defense, and 348th in rebound margin.
Indiana has struggled a bit of late and has trouble generating offense on the road as in their last two road games, both losses, the Hoosiers have averaged just 54.5 ppg. Nebraska has struggled defensively this season, however, they had no trouble putting up points against Indiana earlier this season in a 96-90 loss at OT at Indiana and as I think the Cornhuskers will have some success beyond the arc at home, I’m taking Nebraska to at worst, cover with the points. Good Luck!
